Monday Update: 2/24/14

HEY I'M ON READ THE MANUAL THIS WEEK SO CLICK THIS LINK: http://showmeyournews.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2554
I TALK ABOUT THE STUFF THAT I PLAYED ON THE NEXT EPISODE WHICH COMES OUT SOMETIME THIS WEEK

Anyway,
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1) First Appearance
I'm proud of myself because I was able to pick this game back up after about a month of not touching it, and I was able to get right back in! (I'll admit that I used a walkthrough to figure out where to go) Dracula's Castle in SOTN is my favorite setting in any game because the castle has so much space but still feels restrictive and navigable. I can't imagine Dracula actually living and visiting every part of the castle in any day because you need to jump in order to get most places and I'd imagine he's got pretty old joints by now. (I think Dracula can teleport anyway or at least fly which really takes away any need for him to have stairs or platforms or anything) The soundtrack gets me going every time I'm playing, making navigating the vast castle feel like less of a chore which is necessary because the castle is huge and you move around between places all the time.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip (PSV) Third Appearance
I played this on a bus and then in a building while I waited for a class to start. That's all. The track that I chose was the only user-created course I've ever downloaded and I didn't have to try very hard to win.

SimCity (SNES) First Appearance
This will take a little bit of explaining, but I'm in a French class at my college currently and I decided to try to increase my knowledge of the language by playing the French ROM of SimCity. Turns out you don't really need to be able to read anything at all in order to play SimCity at least fairly well because I don't remember how any of it went. Also, I'm not great as a city planner, so keep that in mind if you're looking to give me a job in these hard times.

THIS MAY AS WELL BE THE MONDAY UPDATE 2/17/14

Two weeks (actually maybe three weeks) in a row posting this shit up on a Monday is TOO MANY and I don't know what to do other than just change my whole schedule up. It'll be out on either Sunday or Monday. I'm really tired by the way, and to make up for it, I didn't play very much this week at all.

Trigger Happy Havoc: Danganronpa (PSV): First Appearance
I should have preordered this game because I ended up barely having a copy of it. Unfortunately, I didn't get as much enjoyment out of it as I thought I would. It's well written, but I don't love the premise of it too much. This is really my bad, I should have done more research and I would have found out that the style of humor is much darker than what I'm typically into. I won't really say that I don't like Danganronpa, but it's not for me.

Kung-Fu (NES): First Appearance
NOW THIS HERE IS MY SHIT
YOU'RE A DUDE AND YOU GOTTA KICK ALL THESE LITTLE DUDES WHO COME UP TO YOU AND GRAB YOU AND YOU CAN DO A JUMP KICK AND KICK THEM IN THE FACE AND THERE'S THIS ONE DUDE WHO THROWS KNIVES AT YOU AND YOU GOTTA JUMP OVER THEM AND KICK HIM IN THE FACE THEN IF YOU KILL THE ONE GUY AT THE END OF THE LEVEL YOU GO UP TO THE NEXT NE IT'S LIKE GAME OF DEATH IT'S SO COOL.

RBI Baseball (NES): First Appearance
This game defined my first month of freshman year in college somehow. I originally played it on one of those browser-emulator sites like nintendo8.com and I think I wasn't supposed to on the campus internet because they monitor that stuff but oh well. I had a 4 hour break between my first and second classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I would come back to my dorm, play RBI, and read EDSBS.com for most of those days in September. Eventually I bought a physical copy and the story ends with me, yesterday, playing RBI Baseball on my NES in my bedroom.

I was the Mets against the Twins. I ended up with a one run lead in the bottom of the ninth with them batting. I don't know how exactly it happened but they got out of the inning with one run and we went to a tenth. Nobody scored in the tenth. I think I scored one in the eleventh. Dwight Gooden went out and was replaced by someone else whose name isn't important, but the point is I think it was Gaetti who hit a Walk Off three-run home run and ended the game.

But shit, this game is great. I don't even like baseball that much for some reason but I'm actually sort of excited for this upcoming baseball season and I might go to some games actually this year which is a terrifying idea for me because I haven't been to a baseball game since 2008. I honestly owe any resurgence of baseball interest in me to RBI, actually.

---

I had built up so much steam and it all went to waste this week. It was a busy week. Next week will be different because I'm going to be on RTM and also I don't have a thousand papers and stuff due this week.

S(monday)unday Update: 2/10/14

Well hey I'm late this week! Hooray!
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back(PS1): Third Appearance, Third Straight Week
FINISHED
So hey, this was a good game, and though it got very difficult near the end, I powered through and finished it off! The last few levels are nothing if not difficult, but the final boss isn't very difficult at all. This is the first Crash Bandicoot title that I ever owned, and I think I'll probably end up buying the third and first ones sooner than later. I completely recommend this to anyone with a PlayStation and a love of platforming games. There aren't many games like this, the camera following the protagonist around like it does in the Crash series.

Heart of Darkness (PS1): Fourth Appearance, Fourth Straight Week
This is probably going to end up being dropped. The last few screens are so hard and I don't think I'll be able to finish it. Maybe I'll try a little bit more this week, but who knows.

Final Fantasy VII (PS1): First Appearance
Here's one of those games I used to play on my old memory card that ended up being formatted after I broke it. We had a few days of class cancelled this week and I spent those nights playing this. I still like the story, and I'm going to continue with it.

College Slam (PS1): First Appearance
I finally found a PS1 copy of this game. It's like NBA Jam, but with NCAA teams. It's not quite as much fun because you're not allowed to use real names of players in college games, so I can't laugh at guys like Dan Majerle or Karl Malone like I do in NBA Jam. I bet you'd have more fun playing with other college kids- Actually, you probably wouldn't because everyone would want to be the same team, forget I said that.

Gran Turismo (PS1): First Appearance
Just call this NEW SHIT WEEK because it's our third straight game that we started this week. I was just bored on Friday and I played more of GT, a driving sim, than I thought I would. I'm no sports car driving sim fan, however, so I'll pick something else to play before this one next time. I still don't hate it, though.

So there's that, I didn't play anything modern this week, because with all the snow, I didn't have much reason to devote time to my 3DS or Vita.

Sunday Update: 2/2/14 SUPER BOWL BABY

"BOOM
BOOM
BOOOOOOOOM"
-Jon Gruden

I'm writing this during the halftime show by the way

Silent Hill: Book of Memories (PSV): Second Appearance, Second Straight Week
I'm surprised that I've stuck with this. It's a dungeon crawler that I actually like, which is almost unheard of for me. I enjoy the boss fights, and puzzle solving, while admittedly somewhat asinine in a few situations, is solid. I definitely recommend this title unless you're a real big fan of Silent Hill games in which case it's probably a huge travesty.

NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (Saturn): Second Appearance, Last 1/19/14
NBA Jam is always fun, even when you lose on a stupid half-court shot by Jamal Mashburn or somebody. I've been playing a special variant of NBA Jam called "Play as the Milwaukee Bucks and try to win a game" and I've been successful. Back when I first bought the Saturn version, I couldn't stand it compared to the Sega Genesis version I had grown up on. My biggest problem was with the scaling, but I'm over that now and I recommend this version.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (PS1): Second Appearance, Second Straight Week
Very little to report other than the fact that I've finally started losing lives. The difficulty curve in Crash 2 is very present, but not absurd or anything like that. I have a good feeling that I can beat this by next week, actually.

Heart of Darkness (PS1): Third Appearance, Third Straight Week
HoD got really hard really quickly. It's back to being an action game, which I don't love, and the screen I'm currently on is really,
really,
really difficult to get past so I'd be surprised if I beat it anytime soon.

Mobile Suit Gundam (Saturn): First Appearance
This is a Japanese import that I've been messing around with last night. It's cool how some imports are pretty accessible to English speakers, and I'm going to cover this game in my series "Saturnday," which I just restarted yesterday with this video:

and with that, I'll leave you. Have a good week, go Vikings I guess but they're not in the Super Bowl
